How to edit Powerpoint template

This is just silly. I can’t figure out how to update the year in the left corner of my company powerpoint slide. I’ve tried footer and header, no help at all. Finally Google comes to rescue.

So I think this might be worth to share with you all as well.

Just go to View menu –> Master –> Slide Master

view_slide_master

That’s it though! You can edit any part of the template as you wish. If you want to save that as new template, you can easily do so via File –> Save As and choose Design Template as Save as type.

How to install fonts without admin right

In Windows, you can’t install new fonts if you don’t have admin rights. Microsoft have made it extremely difficult for normal users to install fonts. As all the Fonts in Windows live peacefully in C:\Windows\Fonts, which is only writeable by Administrators or elevated privilege account owners

So, how can we install fonts without having to ask for Admin rights? Well, thanks to Tsukasa, there’s a workaround. He has developed a tool called Registerfont (You can download here)

What this tool actually does is that add a number of fonts to your font cache which do not need to use an elevated user account. How to use this tool is very simple.

  • Just download the above file.
  • Extract it to anywhere you can have access.
  • Find the Bin folder and copy the font files into it.There you’ll also find registerfont.exe
  • Go to Command Prompt and locate to registerfont.exe then type “registerfont add font1.ttf font2.ttf font3.ttf … font1000.ttf”

What if you don’t even have access to command prompt?

Well, then, you can create shortcut by right clicking on Registerfont.exe, choose create shortcut. After that right-click on that shortcut and go to Properties. Then append the string add with the name of the font file you want to add.

Example : “C:\Documents and Settings\usernamexxx\My Documents\RegisterFont.exe” add font1.ttf

Please note that you have to put Registerfont.exe, its shortcuts and all your fonts in the same folder. That’s it! Once you run the shortcut, you can see that the fonts you added are available to all your favourite Windows applications such as MS Office or Web Browsers.

How to make your Document as Final in Word 2007

I love Windows Vista and Office 2007. No matter what other people are saying, Microsoft introduces a lot of great new features.

Do you know that in Word 2007 you can mark your document as final so that other people could know that no editing should be done?

Here’s the step to do that. Yes it’s easy!

  • First click on Office button and then go to Prepare.
  • After that click Mark as Final.

mark as final for word documents

  • You will see the following dialog box telling you that the document will be marked as final and saved. Just click OK.

  • After that you will see another dialog box telling you more about Mark as Final info. Just click OK.

Now your document has been marked as final. No more accidental editing could occur and your collegues could also aware that they shouldn’t edit the document anymore.

You can differentiate normal document and mark as final document easily as in Mark as Final document, you couldn’t type or edit anything. Also, if this any help, the Word Status bar also telling you as follow.

How to make Word 2007 to save default in Word 97-2003 format

Microsoft has introduced new file formats in Office 2007. I’ve already told you guys about how to open docx files for those who still don’t have Office 2007.

But for me, as a Office 2007 user, sometimes I forget to save the file in Word97-2003 compatible mode and save it in 2007 new format and then send to my friends and coworkers, who are still using Office 2003 or older. After a couple of times happened, I’ve got to find a way to change Office 2007 default save file format. After a dozen times of accidentally sending a Word 2007 document to co-workers still stuck on Office 2003, I’ve decided to make Word save in the Word 2003 format by default.

Here is the procedure:

1. First click on the Office button and then choose Word Options as in the following picture.

2. After that Choose the save on the left column. And then from Save files in this format drop-down menu, choose Word97-2003 Document (.doc) as in the following pic.

After that click save. From now on, Word 2007 will always save file in Word 97-2003 format. No more incompatible format saving any more. As you can guess, even though I told you only about Word 2007, you can apply this tip in Excel 2007, Powerpoint 2007 and any other Office 2007 applications.

How to disable Windows XP error reporting

For the users of Windows XP, you may get the pop-up windows that appears every time some of programs crashes. You have the option to choose whether you want to report the error to Microsoft or not. We usually click No and the message disappears, and we get on with our work.

Well, I have always just clicked NO, and moved on. I never even bother to click YES. I just wanted to get on with my work, so that I find a way to stop the computer to avoid showing that popup. Well, now I’ve got the tip to fix the problem. It is a simple fix.

  • Once the System dialog box is open, click the Advanced tab
  • And then click the Error Reporting tab at the bottom.
  • Check the box that disables Error Reporting.

That’s it. I never have to look at that annoying popup again!

How to copy Windows error message

We all got different error messages on Windows. We can get the solution by googling the error messages. The annoying part of that is we have to manually type the error message as we can’t select the text in the error message box.

But hey from lifehacker blog, I’ve got a much simpler way. Simply just make active the error message window and then press Ctrl+C. All the error message text including Windows title will be on the clipboard. Just paste it in the Notepad, select the message you want and then start googling. No more manual typing.
