Top 10 reasons why you shouldn’t get a Mac
Oct 24th, 2007 by Jason
Apple is giving reasons what they think is imperative for making the change from a PC to a Mac can be found on their website and their famous “I’m a PC, I’m a Mac” ads. After I’ve seen most of the Apple ads and have read their long lists of conviction, I don’t see any apparent reasons why Windows users should switch to Mac. Let’s start the list!
1. It just works.
Huh? What do you mean it just works? Many Mac ads will tell you that all people that own Mac are really satisfied with their computer and Mac never crash. This all turns out to be a pack of lies. It does crash a lot.
Normally, Windows crash because of third party faulty hardware, for Mac, it’s simply because their OS is suck. Just wonder why Apple Sweden website is running Solaris, not Mac OSX. Maybe they know their OS is not reliable.
For those who doubt whether Mac really crashes or not, watch this youtube video. It’s a proof that Mac crashes a lot.
2. You can even run Windows.
Apple just invented BootCamp and then came out and say “Come all Windows users, buy our expensive hardware; you can still use your Vista”. If you can indeed run Vista like on your normal PC, I wouldn’t complain. But you know what, all the function keys will drive you crazy.
**F5 changes the volume instead of refreshing.
**F4 lowers the volume instead of dropping a combo box.
And if all that weren’t bad enough, THERE’S NO RIGHT CLICK BUTTON!!! So besides being pretty, there is no point using the hardware for Windows.
3. Macs run Microsoft Office.Come on! This is the funniest thing of all. I am really wondering about this. I mean Microsoft Office runs on Microsoft Windows. It just ported to Mac doesn’t mean we should switch to Mac. I just ask myself why should I switch when it’s the exactly same on the Mac?
4. Instant video chats.
Yeah! Yeah! Go and tell your grandmas. All PCs users are having great video chat, conference with Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! and so on since a long time ago.
5. Design that turns heads.
I won’t deny Mac looks stylish, neat and tidy. The problem is that their focus on design hinders them from creating practical machines. If you have ever used the small round iMac mouse, you may have probably too suffered from aches in arm and hand.
6. No hunting for drivers.
Apple stated that USB and firewire devices will be working at Mac without having to install drivers. Well, that happens to PC since introducing Windows XP five years ago.
7. You can take it with you.
Apple website stated that most popular applications for Mac and PC use the same file formats, making it simple to exchange documents with friends and coworkers or move existing files from a PC to a Mac.
That is not true. We don’t have to be genius to know that switching to the Mac means we will be sacrificing the diversity of software available for the PC. Sure, you get the essential word-processor and web-browser. But you will get Gtalk with only chatting, who would want Gtalk if you can’t make voice chat?
8. 114,000 viruses? Not on a Mac.
Apple says their OS is based on UNIX, so it is more secure. But, in reality, the reason is that they can’t make OS from scratch like Windows, so they adopted FreeBSD and put some make-up on it.
Of course, there are many viruses for Windows, but Apple forgot to state that there are many Antivirus choices for Windows users as well. Most PCs users who’ve got antivirus never really suffer from virus problem too. Mac is not virus free (Bad boys can release viruses) and Antivirus choice is very limited if there’s any.
9. More fun with photos.
Apple is saying their so-called great invention program named iPhotos that will revolutionize the way we look at digital photos.
Maybe Mac users are new to digital photos on the computer but Windows users reached that stage of evolution ages ago.
10. Hollywood-style movies. It seems that Apple thinks that they’ve revolutionized computing by developing mediocre software for viewing digital photos, editing video, burning CDs and DVDs and listening to music. Well they haven’t!
So don’t be fooled by Apple ads. You have nothing to gain by switching to a Mac. Apple has proved it on their website already. Who would want a mouse with just one button anyway???
Are you trying to be sarcastic and failing or are you just stupid?
Those must be the ten lamest reasons a person could come up with
I’m not a Mac user, I don’t even use Windows. I’m happy with my Ubuntu computer. But man, reading these lame ‘reasons’ sure cracked me up
Thank you! I kinda feel its just geared marketing to a certain consumer… Look at Volkswagon and Google. Happy colors, Younger trendier designs, clean fresh feel and look, “less is more” idea. Mac isn’t the devil. They have a brilliant marketing scheme! And hey its working.
Who said actual facts and trusted reliability has anything to do with sales!
I completely agree, I love being able to control everything on my pc, built it from scratch. I personally have used other OS’s, I see no reason to switch.
Good Post!

@masuran
You can say whatever you want. My article is not lame but Apple way of lying innocent customers or your action of sending in juvenile comments to a website
@GlassJaw
I share with your idea. I also don’t think Mac is evil, but Apple marketing guys are.
Obviously, you never ever really used an OS X based computer!
@I am a lover of children’s literature
I am talking about OSX. I’ve wasted a lot of time on this stupid OS. enough is enough now.
Here’s another 32 (yes 32!!!) reasons why PC are better than Macs. Don’t even let me get started on the Iphone. Don’t forget the Ipod saved apple not the Mac.
oops forgot the link
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/features/110495/32-reasons-why-pcs-are-better-than-macs.html?searchString=32+reasons+mac
Hey I have a mac and hey it never crashes.
I had an Ibook G4, didn’t have too many problems with the OSX, it did occasionally freeze up, the hardware was horrid, low quality crap.
I was messing around my cousin’s new Imac they got the other day, it froze up once and I had to hard restart it….the driver thing is crap too, I had to install an updated driver for their printer on the Imac, OSX didn’t just “make it work” I had to “make it work”
i too accept with you.me too having mac and it never crashes
@sought and fought
watch this youtube video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wl92gFJFtjY
it is a proof that Mac crashes a lot!!
Really? These are the lamest excuses I’ve ever heard! They touch on outright pathetic! And if you think a YouTube video is going to prove a fart-knocking thing, something is screwed in your head! ANYBODY CAN POST A VIDEO TO YOUTUBE! By that logic, unicorns can talk and go to magic candy mountains and have their kidneys removed! ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5im0Ssyyus ) I’m ashamed to be called a computer user if this, sir, is what you call yourself. I have used nothing but Mac or Ubuntu for nearly a year now, haven’t willingly touched a Windows PC because of one thing: It gets bogged down so quickly you can hardly turn the computer on without getting nagged to map out virtual memory to run your 256 MB ram-requiring programs! Besides, name one FREE suite of applications that comes close to iLife that will run on windows. You can’t, can you? Macs dont get many viruses simply because hackers don’t target them nearly as often as the security flaw that is Windows Vista! Microsoft hasnt released a decent OS since XP, and I’m having serious doubts about the underlying structures of 7. Maybe Apple used FreeBSD because they saw something good and wanted to build on it. Maybe Microsoft doesn’t know a good thing when it sees one, so it took it upon itself to create a horrible OS that would only sell because it would be pre-installed on 80% of consumer PCs! And I dare you to open a Microsoft Word document with iWork. It works! Have you even tried this? Mac OS is compatible with much more than people give it credit for. QuickTime even links to a plugin that will allow users to play windows media videos in it. And Apple’s Sweden site runs Darwin, as is clearly stated by the link you yourself posted. Saying iChat is old technology is only true in some degrees, but can you use Windows Live and Yahoo! to share your screen via VNC? Can you use your own photos as greenscreen backdrops WITHOUT A GREENSCREEN? And I’ll be the first to say that Windows runs better on a Mac with 2gb of ram and a 2.4Ghz processor than on a Compaq with 4 GB of ram and a 3.0Ghz processor. DRIVERS PRE-INSTALLED ON A MAC? YES. ON A PC INTENDED TO RUN WINDOWS? NO.
If you are a poor soul stuck with a peice of crap PC, don’t fall into the pit of “Windows is all we have.” http://www.ubuntu.com, ubuntu is a free linux-based operating system with great compatibility and user-friendliness along with a boat-load of features and a small amout of hard-drive space required.
No offense to you personally Jason,
But you, sir, are a technological caveman.
POSTED FROM A 13″ ALUMINUM 2.4GHZ, 2GB RAM, 250GB HARD-DRIVE MACBOOK RUNNING MAC OS X 10.5.8 LEOPARD. No crashes? Hmm.
hahah whoever wrote this is an IDIOOTTTTTTT…first off, BootCamp is good, you’re an idiot if you dont know how to refresh using the F-keys…and even more of an idiot if you’re stupid enough NOT to buy a 2button mouse instead of a 1button macmouse. Your whole argument about how Windows already came up with ideas that are now being put on Mac is full of shyt. If anything, you’ve only got about 1 or 2 reasons why Windows is better than Mac, which makes this whole 10reasons why you shouldnt get a mac blog useless. Hope you get the blue screen of death n00b. bootcamp ftw.
Final Cut Pro is pretty much the best video editing program you can get.
Okay theres some really shit reasons there.
I use macs and PC’s everyday and here are a few of the most annoying things:
1/ You have to eject a USB device from a MAC or risk losing the information you *thought* you copied over.
2/ Mouse is fucking shit, and the side buttons are annoying as fuck; having to disable them every day because of logon settings is annoying.
3/ Self Un-upgradable .
4/ If you break it, you can’t fix it your self; you have to send the entire MAC off.
5/ The warranty on something which is completely contained and cannot be tampered with which is only like 1 year? is a fucking joke. My Razor has a longer warranty, and its £275($550) extra for an additional 2 year if you buy a laptop. (Expensive)
6/ You cant retrieve deleted data like on a PC
Probably alot more, but cant think of any atm, theres also alot of things wrong with PC’s.
Vista being one of them.
i never really noticed that, but your right most of the reasons to switch are because you can do some things on a mac that the PC could do years ago
AS the great Homer Simpson had said, “Facts? Pppfffftt, you can prove ANYTHING with faaacts.”
I once wanted a Mac until I grew intelligent enough to build my own PC for 1/3 of the price with twice the power.
The funny thing is this, pc = personal computer. Isn’t a Mac a pc by definition? Isn’t a linux OS running maching a pc too? Shouldn’t they rather compare Mac to Microsoft? Why try to to make Mac sound like it’s not what it is?
I work IT at a tech college, we have 1/5 the amount of Macs compared to Windows machines. Why? Windows just works.
Man seriously, you’re an idiot. None of those reasons rely on facts.
I have a PC running windows XP that never crashes…
Okay first. The chances of a Mac crashing is slim to none you would have to purposely destroy the Mac to reach this goal. 2nd. Mac computers are more stable than a PC. 3rd Mac computers are professionals first choice why?? Because they always work. Your favorite movie you are watching now, the website you’re on. The music you hear on the radio are all edited and recorded via Mac. Ask any professional and they will tell you Mac is the best. My Mac has no viruses at allll… I dont even have to use an Antivirus program. Last but not least the reason why there are not a large choice of antivrius programs is because It’s not neccessary Mac’s hardly get viruses. PC’s on the other hand has about a thousand to choose from because PC’s run off them. Once I had 5,000 viruses on my computer, I never knew that was possible PC’s suck…
@ Anonymous
Mac can have few viruses…. Most viruses when created are designed a target. There are more computers using windows 2k/XP/Vista than using Mac, Linux, Win9x (with the latter u still have some small chances of getting a virus designed for 2k/xp/vista). Obviously, the usual target for a virus is Windows 2k/XP/Vista.
Now… when there will be 90% Macs and 10% Windows used around the world, be sure there will be lots of viruses for Mac. No offense but probably the virus creators are saying “why make it for a Mac .. who’d do such a thing as buy a Mac.. they’re so expensive..”.
Congratulations on your FUD article. Its really clever.
1) Windows crashes because of unstable 3rd party software. So does OS X. No difference – but the likelihood of OS X crashing and Windows is far different. However given that XP is 5 years old now and thus a lot of the bugs have been ironed out dissolves this argument a bit. But wait, the new Windows.. Vista is it? What about how often it crashes? No one knows cos no one uses it? Oh right.
2) Function keys – gee don’t a lot of Windows PC’s have those things? Like function keys for turning Wireless on and off instead a software change?
3) MS Office is sadly a stable of the world. Its availability helps make the transition easier.
4) iChat is more stable and has tons more user features than Windows Live Messenger – and don’t forget iChat has always been iChat, not Microsoft Messenger, then MSN Messenger, then Windows Live Messenger etc… and never does iChat make you upgrade just because a new version is out or refuse to connect.
5) You answered that one. And yes the puck mouse sucked. We all know that.
6) Glory of having a 5 year old, no major changes OS its drivers. But what about Vista? There’s a whole another story isn’t it?
7) Sacrifice? Damn, yeah my OS won’t run just about every language on the planet so therefore I sacrifice the ability for script kiddies to corrupt my computer. Shit.
9) Windows Fax and Picture Viewer sucks balls compared to iPhoto…
10) Windows Movie Maker sucks balls compared to iMovie too…
1. It just works doesn’t mean it never crashes. Anyone who uses OS X can tell you that in fact you get an occasional app crash. What that phrase means it’s actually just more easier and intuitive to move around OS X than Windows. Obviously you can’t expect an OS code to be perfect, just an idiot would. I mean come on… you’re not an idiot are you?
2. I’ve never really tried to install Vista on my Mac, I do run XP on both Parallels and BootCamp and it works perfctly.
3. You’ve really putting things out of context here. This reason doesn’t mean “Hey you can run ported software on my OS. Switch!” This means, for people who are forced to use Office, they don’t have to sacrifice it by switching. Didn’t you see through that? Again… you are not in fact stupid are you?
4. You haven’t seen the features iChat has right? Maybe you should check your facts before stating ‘great video chat’ with those programs, and maybe you should actually test the iChat before making this comments.
5. Come on, this have to be a joke. Round mouse hasn’t been around in years. You seriously disappointed me with this one. And even if you were actually being able to purchase one of these mouse at an Apple Store today, any third-party mouse works perfectly with every Mac. You seriously let me down. I’m beginning to think maybe you are a little bit stupid after all. But who knows lets continue.
6. You should know that most of the things you plug in into a Mac just starts working, and if this weren’t to happen, the chances are your product will come with a driver. Unless that you actually buy a device that is not compatible, which then makes you stupid. I read in a comment below, you were an OS X user… is there any chance you are lying?
7. What does this whining even mean. You first say ’same file formats’ but then you say ’sacrificing the diversity of software’. First of all, Mac does have thousands of software too. Do you actually have a perception that Mac does only feature 10 to 15 software? Because it doesn’t. It actually does have thousands of software available for it. Just like Windows, except Windows have thousands more. And I doubt any Mac or Windows user actually uses their own respective library of apps. But I don’t really know, again, what this 7 reason meant. File formats or apps?
8. The fact is Mac is more secure. Wether you like it or not. It’s a fact I’m sorry if you don’t like it, you can keep blinded from reality but perhaps you should know this. Even if you come and tell me ‘bad boys CAN release viruses’ doesn’t mean they do. There is like 3 worms and a ‘trojan’ discovered, neither for which are anywhere near critical. Do you know how much more crap is available for the public download everywhere for Windows? Haven’t you read about the MANY worldwide Windows OS based virus spreads? Are you really that biased?
9. First of all maybe if you spelled it right, I would believe in fact you’ve used iPhoto. And you would know what a great program it is, it handles photos extremely intuitively. But anyways, to throw that argument about Mac just meeting digital life is just the worst thing so far you’ve said. I’m not even commenting on that. That’s just so dumb.
10. The fact is iTunes is the most used digital online store in the world. The iPod nano and iPod are leaders in both they’re markets. By far. And the Mac growth somewhere near twice than that of Windows. Even if it’s a hardware-software company.
But ok, ok, I get it now. You are in fact very stupid, and this article is just a very mediocre rant with the worst arguments I’ve ever heard.
concerning the last post, i bought a gen III ipod 20gig, i went through 5 in a matter of 2 months, it is hands down the worst portable music device ever. Sure the design is sharp and marketed really well, but its crap. I was sitting in my car, and it slipped out of my pocket into the seat and broke. How does something break by sliding 2 inches into a seat!?! Luckily i bought a 3yr warranty, and got the use out of it, it was sent for repairs 8 times, 2 times is because the replacement they gave me was defective. Yeah great product. It broke again last month and i switched over to the Microsoft Zune, unbelievably better. There are flaws, like the sync takes forever, and its not nearly as pretty but so much more functional and user-friendly.
I agree with the article on drivers, My universities lab uses G4’s and they have a samsung printer, which only works on 2 computers in the lab because the rest dont have the drivers. And since you cant download mac drivers, it renders the printer useless with any of the other computers. Yes, macs are super smart and convenient.
There’s only 3 reasons to use a MAC:
1 – Video editing (Final Cut Pro is the best)
2 – You have more money than brains
3 – You got one as a gift and you don’t want to hurt the giver’s feelings by returning it for a PC
I’m a Digital Cinema student in Michigan. Here they give all the art students MacBooks. I was so frustrated by it, that first chance i got, i ran home and brought back my PC. I prefer Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 to Final Cut Pro. After all, what do you think FCP was based on? (Hint: Adobe)
try OS X before you write this article..
then you’ll see why mac is better….
MAC is Media Access Control, I think you were meaning to do a review on a Mac…
The fact that you cannot even spell the name of the item you a reviewing correctly suggests you know little about what you are reviewing, it’s a credibility issue.
@puscifer99
MAC could be Media Authentication Code too depend on your perspective. When I say you shouldn’t get a MAC mean, everybody know I would say Macintosh.
Read here. http://www.answers.com/mac&r=67
Don’t be a childish, kid.
[...] likes windows better than a mac, and looks like he has got good reasoning for the same. Check out an article on this, which counters each of the points apple has put forth in favor of a [...]
I took my 20″ imac back. I WANTED to like it, but it was Very Much Different than windows in terms of navigating, what things are called, where they reside, etc. I’m to busy / lazy / old to totally re-learn an entirely new system, just to be able to do the things I already can do very well and quickly on Windows.
Physically, it’s seems sturdy and stylish, but mentally, not for me.

Mac mouses that look like they have only one button really have two. You have to go to system preferences and enable. If you cant enable it just press control and click. Boot Camp actually runs Windows XP and Vista a lot better than the actual computer that has windows. Macs do not crash a lot. They may crash only once a week( depending on how OLD your mac is) I would of gone with Windows if they didn’t come out with boot camp, and most of your facts are wrong.
Im bored of my windows laptop and want to get an apple laptop. but ive read the so many nice pursuasive things on the apple site but also as i can see here and other sites there are things against macs. i have a friends thas worked in sony center and apple store. he says macs are by far better than any windows pc or laptop, firstly because they have the worlds best operating system and user friendly interface. he says basically what the apple site says about their laptops.( he also has used both apple and windows computers). im sort of in the middle but i wouldnt mind spending money on a new mac – due to the ‘fact’ that macs ’seem’ to be ‘perfect’ – i just hope it is… anyways – its best not to be biased. safe.
Hi I just wanted to tell you can right click and you’ve always been able to right click on a mac! You can set it to be able to do a secondary click. Sure on the old macs the mouse only has one button but you can ctrl click for a right click or plug in a mouse with a right click button. I’ve been a windows user for years and just switch and in my opinion all of those mac ads are true most people don’t like them because they brag allot and make fun of Windows to much but most of them are true. Also Pc’s do crash more than macs. Macs do crash but not as often, just because one mac crashes doesn’t mean it represents all of them. Microsoft Office, Bootcamp, why not? Sometimes people want Windows and Mac os X on there computer and if you don’t need it then don’t use it, sometimes it’s good to have options. Its great because it’s also very compatible with my Pc that I also own. So think about it you can have everything, Microsoft Office, Windows xp or Vista, Gaming, all the mac apps that are amazing (iLife) and finanally a computer thats gorgeous. It might be a little pricey but it’s worth it.
@ Alex
If you’re happy with Mac, then it’s up to you.
For my opinion, one thing I hate about Apple marketing is that they keep Mac to themselves. Don’t let any other manufactures to install other than their own hardware.
Why Apple do this? Their profits rely only on hardware. If Microsoft do this, there’ll be many many antitrust.
Just my opinion.
By doing that they are able to fix problems more easily, and it’s probably one of the reason why Macs are more reliable than PCs. Windows can be installed on any PC regardless of the hardware, but there are some conflictions with certain hardware and certain operating systems.
I personally favour Mac over Windows and I’ve only had a Mac for just over 6 months. Prior to that I’ve always used Windows and the odd flavour of Linux. I still use Windows XP (I didn’t like Vista), and the machine it runs on is one I built myself 4 years ago. Windows XP has always been reliable for me and I’ve had very few problems with it.
I hate the OS war, it doesn’t matter what OS you use, at the end of the day it boils down to personal preference. I use Windows XP and OS X, Leopard. I will always be a Windows user and a Mac user…and Ubuntu at odd times.
Macs do crash, but in my experience nowhere near as often as Windows. The times when my Mac has crashed are when it’s been woken up, the login screen either freezes or doesn’t appear at all LOL. Firefox has a tendancy to stop responding quite frequently but force quit takes care of that.
Given the fact that OS X is built on a Unix platform it tends to be more stable than windows. Unix apparently never crashes but I doubt it was ever intended to have a powerful GUI running on it.
I bought an Apple Intel Pro Macbook recently and I’m very happy with it. It all depends what you want to use it for. I use it for designing my t-shirts, it’s fast, it splits pixels, it’s beautiful, to me.
Hola!
Last summer I decided to get a Macbook laptop for my last 2 years of college. I had never liked Mac’s before, mainly due to a lot of dumb little things like the mouse, lack of popular games/software, unsupported hardware drivers, use of the PPC processor, etc. This changed however once Apple switched all of their computer products over to intel processors; not only did this put better processors into their Mac line, it also opened up a world of software opportunities. This is the point when I became interested in Macs.
My opinion about your top 10 list:
1) My Mac has crashed once since the summer. Once. That’s with a lot of 3rd party applications installed, lots of drivers for my hardware, and running all day. Just because a video shows a mac crashing means the OS sucks (I’m assuming this is what the video is of, it has been removed from youtube)? Windows XP is a fine operating system that I have used since it was released, yet it crashes now and then, does that mean it suck as well? I wont even get started with Vista.
2) Yes, you can run Windows XP and Vista on an intel Mac. I have a dual boot setup with OS X and XP. It works great and is easy to setup. The function key can be a pain, but it takes less than an hour or so get used to it…
3) Wow, I’m not really sure how to respond to this one. There seems to be a trend going on here, you basing the whole list off Apple’s marketing campaign, not whether Mac’s are actually good or not. More on this later.
4) Uhh, both Macs and all PC’s have had video chat for years. This is part of their marketing campaign…
5) If you would sit down and use a Mac for more than the 5 minutes, with an open mind, you will actually see that they are designed with a lot more than look in mind. Everything from the button placement to the menu locations in OSX are designed with brilliant quality. They pay extreme detail to little things that you won’t notice at first.
If you would do a little research, you would find out that all the newer Macs come with a mouse/trackpad that supports two button clicks. My Macbook trackpad has only one button, but with a simple change of an option, you can have a much better 2-button trackpad. If you place 2 fingers on the track pad, then click the single button, it will act as a secondary click. Much easier than using 2 different buttons. You can also put 2 fingers on the track pad and move them up/down, left/right to scroll in desired direction without having to deal with the annoying mini scroll bar areas on most laptops.
6) You really have no idea how marketing works, do you? Have you read anything about drivers in Vista???
7) I have no problem at all exchanging files between my PC and Macbook… at all. My mac actually came with much better out of the box support for many file formats than my PC did.
9) Have you looked at XP’s default image program? iPhoto is years ahead of it, and thats not because XP is old. Yes you can get a 3rd party program for images on windows, but iPhoto just ties in with number 1), it just works out of the box.
10) Another wow here, apparently you have never talked to anyone who does big time movie, photo, or audio creating and editing; its all on a mac…
So, you’re basing you opinion of Mac computers off of their marketing campaign? Wow… Do you even understand who Apple is targeting???? How many people actually know the differences between a Mac and Windows computer? Who, in a family, generally has the funds and ability to purchase a new computer? Had you even used a Mac before writing this list? I’m talking about a new Mac, not one you used 10 years ago at your buddy’s house. Apples is targeting adults/parents, not born in the internet age. “Surprisingly,” these people are not computer savvy at all, and tend to know nothing about Macs. They know nothing about switching to Macs at all, nothing about how they work. Why not create a marketing campaign that shows how simple it is to switch, that you can do everything on a Mac that you can do with Windows, even some thing much better. Apple’s campaign has been widely successful, especially with the disaster that Vista has become.
If anyone read this list and actually used it to decide whether to get a new Mac or Windows PC, please just disregard it. Both types are great in their own ways. I love my Mac. I also love my PC. In now way, shape, or form am I a Mac fanboy. I have real experience with both computer types. Mac’s do cost more, but you can a great quality computer, with lots of out of the box software.
Now is a great time to get a Mac; you can live in both worlds with bootcamp. If you want to dabble a bit in both Windows and OS X, but do not want to pay the money just for OS X, do a google search on running OS X on a PC. The process is not legal (requires downloading a hack version of OS X) or designed for the computer illiterate, but can bring you into the world of OS X without a Mac.
HAHA I think the vid was removed cause it was rigged and a ton of people knew that.
boy.. you come to pretty crappy conclusions.. for instanse, i run vista nativly on my mac…using bootcamp. and you can change the f4 to refresh again, only mac users prefer to use it like that… remember that windows is just a poor copy of that macintosh operating system… get youre facts together… buy a mac for better hardware for better reliability, it crashes if hardware fails or because of crappy 3d party software, just like a pc does.. the system on the other hand does never crash.. who cares if programs arent as smooth as they are in windows… its for youre own good. just surf the net on the pc and you caught millions of slow eating worms, that destroy pc’ fun fact, i had to instal xp – and vista twice because it crashed! now my mac’s still running! so is windows but the installation just bugs the hell out of me! get a mac be smart, and dont be pethetic about macs, pretty eazy to release frustrations on a computer, i hate windows freacks bitching at apple, they just try to create a flaw here and there, because thats what they do on windows, repairing!… and demolishing, if you are wize people. buy a mac… its like this. 1 you start it up, DONE… 2. you can run all opperating systems, 3. great price and speed and ensurance…. who would want more. forget the ole fry the prosessor box type machine’s… be cool ,buy a mac
windows sucks ass ! lmao you windows nerdies are funny! i dont believe in youre faith i run the apple faith, you the pc faith, go to hell! lol
Try repairing a macs hardware it is near to impossible
Sounds like the writter of this article doesn’t really know Macs. I can tell you from the inside out switching to MAC has to be the best decision anyone can ever make.
I spent 7 years of my llife, building PCs’, supporting Windows, going crazy and feeling frustrated about virus, incompatible hardware, no sense errors and unexplainable OS behavior
2 years ago I switched to Mac and I haven’t been happier
(I’m a PHP developer with experience in flash design, COMPTIA, A+, CCNA)
Runinng Offce? why bother spending 200 Euros when you can get Neo for free ( no genius needed there, just a coupld of google searches…
why bother making an OS from Scratch? its; all been said and done – FreeBSD it’s the most stable OS after Solaris + make it easy to use = MAC OSX The best of both worlds
simple and stable – quality alltogether both in service as in hardware
You get what you pay for. that’s why windows can run on those $100 US PC.
The whole virus part it’s simply wrong mac has antivirus options, it’s just simply not necessary……
add the “cool factor” and you get Steve Job’s legacy
PSS
You’re an idiot…………….. enough said.
Learn to type properly first, your grammar just makes you look really stupid, which degrades the validity of the entire post.
The writer obviously has no sense of what a Macintosh really is.
Do some research before you make another 10 stupid reasons why you shouldn’t get a mac, which aren’t even VALID.
1.) Oh, so if one Mac crashes, they all are that bad, eh? Using your logic, that means if one PC isn’t worth what you pay, none of them are. Actually, the second statement is true, but the first isn’t. Think about that for a while. PS: If you did any research about macs, you’d know that every version before X was made from scratch. Oh and, Windows was originally a copy of Macintosh.
2.) Bootcamp isn’t so you buy a Mac and completely use vista on it (who in the right mind would use vista anyways?), but so that Mac users can still use Pc-Only software. And there is a right click button, but it’s hidden underneath the casing of the mouse (and you have to activate it).
3.) Microsoft Office For Mac is not a complete reason to switch, but a reason switching is easier than you people would think.
4.) iChat is still better than your cheap Windows Live Messenger. Besides, we even have our own webcams built in (unless we use a Mac Mini/Pro).
5.) Just because my iMac is smaller and awesomer-looking than your pc, that doesn’t mean it’s worse. The only bad Mac is the Macbook Air. And yes, the Puck mouse sucked, but that’s no reason not to switch. Because it stopped being manufactured. ABOUT 7-10 YEARS AGO.
6.) Windows XP does have drivers. Alot. I plugged in a mouse on my iMac and it started working instantly. Then I plugged the SAME mouse into a Windows XP SP2 PC and it wanted me to try to install drivers for it.
7.) Oh no, you lose Gtalk. Big deal. iChat is a good variant to that. And this may surprise you, but Macintosh has more than just a web-browser and a word-processor. The main portion of software we give up is viruses.
8.) You idiot, WINDOWS copied MACINTOSH. I mean, Look at Vista and all of the OS X versions. Many of the so-called “New Features” have been on mac for a few years. 2 Examples: Widgets and Spotlight. Spotlight was added 10.3 or earlier, and Widgets 10.4 or earlier. The idiot Windows versions were “newly introduced” with vista. And ONLY Os X is based of Unix. OS 9 and below uses their own coding, which is what Windows is based off.
9.) Even if you came to digital design ages ahead of us (which you didn’t), our digital design software is still eons ahead of the PC counterparts.
10.) Try using our excellent software, and then try telling us it’s “Mediocre.”
I always liked Macs; but the truth is they always let you down. Some of the reasons here are taken out of context, but the truth is: so is the Apple campaign. Here are my 6 reasons to not switch:
5. When you pay a premium, you expect quality customer service. I am sorry to have learnt that Apple’s customer service is awful.
4. Macs do crush — a lot! In fact more frequent than all of my boxes running Windows. I must admint that I was happier with Tiger, OS exceptions were rare. Their software stack though, especially Safari was another story. Leopard is the worst POS ever! I’ve had blue screens with Windows maybe once year, I currently get the black screen of death every two days. I havent upgraded to Intel-based Mac yet; but hey who is stupid enough to pay that much of a premium for the same CPU?
3. What idiot asserted that there are no viruses on a Mac? ALL software is subject to a subversion attack, Unix is no different. It’s a bit more challenging but not rocket science. Just raise the stakes and make it worth my while
Of course most enterprises dont run Mac OS X, it is not enterprise-friendly and that’s where the dough is.
2. Usability is a question of taste. For those indoctrinated into Windows and Unix world, Mac’s spin on BSD is unnecessarily constrained. Yes, it’s pretty — but it also has a learning curve.
1. I’m a developer. Having to work around the OS to get something coded up (not using Cocoa) is a real pain in the butt. Debugging code for embedded device is a heart-burn.
0. Too much hype and too much let down. The truth is I am not thrilled about most electronics now days; too many unfullfilled promises and poor quality code. However, I get most miffed when consumers get their hopes up, shell out the hard earned cash and are really paying for a mediocre product. I’ve tried Apple products for the past 12 years. They all have a short life.
My $ 0.06….
If you dont like it.. why did you try it for 12 long years? lol!
This is the dumbest article I have ever read. Obviously whoever wrote this has never used a Mac in their life. I bet if they did, they would retract every single thing they have said. There is no end to the problems Windows XP and Vista have. The only way they work correctly is on a Mac. I really think this person is jealous of Mac users, as all other PC users are.
I have come across your article by chance.
I wish I didn’t.
Truth hurts eh?
Macs don’t get “real” viruses anyways, and malicious programs that you download use known exploits to manipulate your computer.
All Apple would have to do would be to close those exploits and Macs really wouldn’t get any viruses.
Also, there are 2 known BSD viruses that can effect Macs, both of which can be destroyed and found by Norton AntiVirus for Mac.
That was 15 minutes of my life I will never get back.
your prob just mad cause you cant afford to buy a mac and your stuck with your cheap lame PC.
do some research too cause your wrong about apple..
everything above is subjective rambling…my only comment is to check your grammar
I use a mac as a casual user and these are my thoughts:
(numbers don’t correspond to the article points)
1. Mac OS is alot quiter visually. I use a PC at work and having little bubbles and things pop up ever time I try to do something gets annoying. On mac it what ever you wanted to happen just happens, no pop up to tell you what you just did.
2. Integrated spell check. I haven’t used Vista before so, like alot of things on Vista, this may have been stolen from OS X already, but I like the integrated spell checker, mac is spell checking this post right now, in real time. Its very convenient.
3. Time Machine. Great backup utility, never even think about it and I’ve retrieved stuff from over a year ago, and it takes seconds.
4. Solid design. I can’t really know Microsoft on this one cause its a PC culture thing, but Macs are built my Apple and so is the OS so everything works together. Yes this limits the hardware options but really, the thrill of upgrading things died about the time the Pentium III came out (for me anyway). Macs work like any other appliance in your house. When you want to watch TV or use the microwave, it doesn’t ask you a million questions, it just works. And thats pretty close to a mac.
5. Software updates. When the OS changes I sometimes get a hardware firmware update too. If I was on a PC I would have to upgrade the hardware drivers myself, after i discovered they no longer worked with the Windows upgrade.
There are alot more reasons, but really it comes down to preference. If you like a PC, stick with it. If you like a Mac, stick with it.
The truth is, Macs do just work, much, much better than PCs. Have you actually (whoever wrote this) ever tried using Mac OSX for longer than 3-5 months?
I was a PC-user my whole life, although when I was really young I had a Mac, and it was very, very slow (but computers were in the early 90’s), and I made the daunting switch back to Mac.
I have only been using Mac OSX for 8 months or so, and I am very satisfied. I mean, there will always be a few things about a PC that are better, but I feel that my switch to a Mac has been an excellent choice for me. I was very nervous about it at first, but it has been great.
I switched because:
1) I was sick and tired of having to keep up with the most current viruses and current anti-virus software, since, with a PC, it is required to use anti-virus to protect the computer. However, with a Mac, you don’t even NEED it, although it is AVAILABLE in the store for purchase and ONLINE for free. My PCs (I had several-Dell Dimension, Dell XPS, and others) never failed to crash and/or get viruses consistently, no matter how often I did updates. One virus I remember getting so often that I had to install and keep the hard copy of the antivirus solution to it; it was that one-minute virus that shuts down your computer unless you have fixblast.exe to fix it. My Macbook has never crashed (*knock on wood*).
2) Yes, Macs are expensive, but first of all, things that are worth it and are of higher value are generally more expensive; also, when I bought my Macbook in fall ‘08, Dell XPS computers were running for pretty much the SAME price. So, when I bought my laptop, price, as compared to PC, was not a factor, though laptops are generally expensive anyway.
3) One key difference that was not mentioned here in your article or in many of the replies is the quality of customer service. Every time I had a problem with my PC, which was often (every 2-3 wks or so), I would need to call customer service, and since I speak English, and I would have preferred to speak to someone that spoke and understood English well, not some person in India that I can’t understand and puts me on hold for 2-10 minutes every 5 minutes, after waiting 20 minutes to talk to someone. If you haven’t ever called Applecare, you should. People there are much more friendly and communicable, and anyone can get through the automated menu very, very quickly, and when I have had any issues with my Macbook, itouch, or iphone, which has been rarely, I call them and am talking to someone within 5-10 minutes, even at night and/or on the weekends, and I recently have been able to talk with the same person consistently about issues, which makes it much easier than talking with a bunch of different people, which is what happens when you have a PC. Apple also has a program for basically $100 that you get weekly consultations about your new Macbook, or whatever laptop you purchase, 1 year from the date you purchase it. I’d love to see the day HP, Dell, or any other PC-manufacturer has some deal like that.
4) You totally can run Microsoft Windows programs on Macs; it is very easy, inexpensive, and antivirus is not even required. I have the Mac version of Microsoft Office ‘08, and it works great, and helped me transition from Windows to Mac.
I think it’s good to be familiar with both PC and Mac for someone who is working with computers or in business today, and it is not very difficult to become versed in both. Like another person said earlier, a lot of it comes down to personal preference, or some people have to use one or the other for business. Granted, the switch was difficult, and that’s why I was hesitant to do it, but it has definitely been SO worth it, and I am very satisfied.
I have been a PC user all my life
i am getting my mac next week
and the 10 reasons u provided are nonsense
they are not reason but ur OPENIONS
I dont have Mac or PC… I do however have this lovely shiney toaster
Dude, you rock more than anyone else on this site. I am envious of your shiny toaster.
To tell the truth, the ten reasons on this site are NOT very convincing, but that does not mean the argument is flawed.
I’m into buying a new laptop sometime soon. Guess what – although I’m mostly a PC but also a part-time Mac user, I decided to stick to PCs. Why? Here’s why:
I’ve configured the Sony Vaio FZ series notebook to match MacBook Pro’s components. Of course, they were not identical, but quite close. Result? Sony came out at $1000, MacBook at $2000. Same specs. Both look gorgeous (by the way, Sony invented the split-key keyboard design FIRST), if you don’t believe me about the looks, check out their website. Other than that:
+No bloatware on Macs (not much of a problem for a person who is at least partially literate when it comes to computers)
+SUPPOSEDLY good support (haven’t had a chance to try it; but I’ve tried Sony and it’s great within the warranty period)
-WAY OVERPRICED (seriously, the “you can’t afford it” argument is really flawed. You know, I can sell you an apple [the fruit, not the computer] for $20 and promise it will taste better. Are you still going to buy it?)
-It’s limiting for prosumers and computer literate people
-There are PC substitutes for every program you have on a Mac, other than Garage Band (iPhoto -> Picasa. iMovie -> Sony Vegas or Windows Movie Maker [yes, it's worse, but fits its purpose], etc)
These are just a few arguments FOR and AGAINST Macs.
Oh, and it’s funny how Mac users think their computers are not PCs… Come on. PC = Personal Computer, and Macs certainly fit in that category.
Before somebody starts bashing this comment – note that I’m not a PC fanboy. I’m open to Macs, if a few changes are made. And, please, take a while to figure out that WINDOWS != PC (!= means does not equal). Stop attacking PCs, attack Windows! =D
One more thing.
Vista user here. No bluescreens ever since I built my PC. Flawless performance, no problems with Vista. My graphics card will run circles around any, mark it, ANY Mac out there, even the Pro.
And I have had only one (1) virus throughout the last 6 years.
And, ironically, a Mac was hacked first two years in a row at the PWN TO OWN competition.
Oh well, whatever. If you like Macs, go ahead, buy them. It does good things to the economy
XD Couldnt agree with you more plus Macs dont have any games i like Ubuntu and Linux cause they arent douchy upthemself pricks like i run vista and have no problems with it im happy where i am
your daddy didnt buy u a mac so u’re writin all this in frustration, those reasons are so lame.. get a life man seriously… I’m not here to prove anythin but apple rulz, all those windows users out ther u can just suk it!!! P.S macs do have right click’s u dumb fuk, infact an apple mouse has 4 buttons to use.
finally someone who agrees with me when I say that MACS ARE THE LAMEST COMPUTER EVER! sure they have a pretty design, and all but they are lame. If the mac was a person, he would be mental. That no right click button just gets to me. And whenever I ntype the cursor moves around and starts typing in jacked up places. For example:
When I was typer and mying a school pap my cursor was moving ALOTaround. It took mtwice as longe to ytpe my paperr.

It was annoying. I honestly don’t know why everyone thinks they’re so cool. and they use the ipods to cover up their suckish computer making skills.
This is the worst article i have ever read. This is the most biased and ignorant arguement.
You say Mac crashes alot, i can tell you my mac has never crashed, while my PC crashes at least 10 times a day. in fact thats the reason i switched to mac, because my PC was just unusable. and you what you said about the F5 and F4 keys being different. your completely wrong, F5 does refresh… F10 and F11 are the volume…. and you can change them or simply hold down the Fn key to make them regular function keys. And the no right click? take the mouse from your PC and plug it into a mac. simple as that. you could say PCs dont have a right click without a mouse. its the same deal…
And what you said about the viruses…. are you kidding me. just beacause PCs have more defense against viruses (which this is most likely made-up because Mac has SEVERAL anti virus programs) doesnt mean that they are better than a machine that simply cant get viruses.
You argue with the worst logic and no backing facts. “Well they havent!” Are you joking dude….. give me a reason why they havent.
Obviously this was written by a simple minded person and targeted to simple minded people. and if you read this and it convinces you to not get a mac….well go ahead and be an unhappy PC user. You’ve Earned It!
You said that there are tons of choices for antivirus software for windows, right? But think of it this way, you’re paying someone yearly to help get rid of errors and bugs that should have never been there in the first place
Wow. Just wow. I am surprised that, first of all, none of you bother to spell correctly, and you have auto correct too. Also, most of these ’statements’ are very opinionated and there are no true facts or anything. If I were you, I would spend my time not yelling at people for their opinions, but actually trying Mac at a store, or trying PC at one. If you don’t like it then don’t buy it. It is common sense that most things online are either half truths, lies, statistics, opinions, or just plain garbage that isn’t worth your time! Don’t even try to think I am a hypocrite because I literally can’t go to Apple store, or at least a good one. Don’t believe anything you read online, or plain old anything, except for proven facts, like 2+2=4. Just don’t freak out every time you see someone say something is good or bad. Everything has it’s pluses and minuses, but nothing is perfect and nothing is perfectly bad.
<sigh
You know, I honestly do not care how good or bad a Mac or PC. If you are too lazy to test them out before you buy them, then just use boot camp if you hate Mac. It is almost exactly like mac, all you need to have is a windows computer of some sort.
Thats the most stupid reasons i have ever heard, its all lies lies lies. Macs are for Professionels, and don’t forget that Bill Gates and all his developers has stolen so much from the mac, and the mac has never stolen anything from Windows. A Mac is 50x more stable than a Mac, it runs faster, smoother and is a real PC! i have a Mac Pro and a playstation 3 i have the best operating system in the world and the best console in the world for games. So i don’t need a Windows PC that is so loud if you dont install a water cooling system which cost hundreds of dollars if not thousand if you want a real good kit without crashes.
