Windows default setting comes with Autoplay turn on. This feature is useful until one day you’ve got hit by usb worm or virus. To protect you from infecting all sorts of worm or virus from usb, you should disable the autoplay feature.
Follow these steps for Windows XP
- Go to Start –>> Run –>> Type gpedit.msc
- In the Group Policy Editor, go to Computer Configuration
- Select Administrative templates –>> System
- You will find Turn off Autoplay in the right column setting list.
- Double click on Turn off Autoplay and you’ll see as Windows below.
- Select Enabled and Turn off Auto play on drop-down menu, choose All drives.
For Windows Vista, things got simpler.
- Just go to Start Menu –>> Control Panel –>> AutoPlay
- And then uncheck for Use AutoPlay for all media and devices
- And then click save. See the following screenshot.
That’s it! Now your computer is less likely to get infected by usb viruses or worms anymore.
